WARSAW: Łukasz Żal, nominated for an Academy Award for Best Cinematography in Ida (Opus Film), is theDoP of Na granicy/On the Border, the debut feature of an experienced documentary filmmaker Wojciech Kasperski.

WARSAW: Nominations for the 17th edition of the Polish Film Awards – The Eagles were announced on 5 February 2015 in Warsaw. Polish box office hits of 2014, Gods and Jack Strong, got the most nods.

LODZ: British film company Small Screen took over one of the oldest Polish animation studios Se-Ma-For, due to its financial problems. Se-Ma-For has been active since 1947, with more than 1400 movies produced.

WARSAW: Shooting has started for Filip Bajon's new version of the classic Polish comedy Mrs. Dulska's Morality. The premiere is planned for October 2015.

WARSAW: With over 40 million tickets sold in 2014 Poland surpassed the results from 2013 by over 4 million. Three Polish titles topped the 2014 chart.

LOS ANGELES: Nominations for the upcoming Academy Awards were announced on 15 January 2015. Ida by Paweł Pawlikowski was nominated in two categories, Best Foreign Language Film and Best Cinematography. Two Polish short documentaries, Joanna by Aneta Kopacz and Our Curse by Tomasz Śliwiński, received nominations in the Best Short Subject category. Polish costume designer Anna Biedrzycka-Sheppard (Maleficent) was nominated for Best Costumes.

WARSAW: The Polish section of FIPRESCI together with the Polish Filmmakers Association announced the winners of The Golden Tapes awards for best films screened in Polish cinemas in 2014. The Golden Tapes prizes went to Łukasz Palkowski's Gods and Andrey Zvyagintsev's Leviathan.

WARSAW: Poland is mourning the loss of two of Poland’s greatest filmmakers, writer, director and screenwriter Taduesz Konwicki and director and screenwriter Krzysztof Krauze.

WARSAW: The drama Gods by Łukasz Palkowski has become the most popular Polish film of the year, with 2.03m tickets sold to date.

WARSAW: Good Morning, I Love You, a romantic comedy directed by Ryszard Zatorski recorded over 520,000 admissions since it premiered in Poland on 7 November 2014.
