VARNA: Dimitar Petkov’s period drama The Short Straw (ARS Digital Studio) will screen in the main competition of the 38th Golden Rose National Film Festival (24 September - 1 October 2020). It is a period drama set 40 years ago, putting the head of a provincial police office and his subordinate officers in a fierce struggle against each other.

VARNA: Blessed are the Meek by Gueorgui Stoyanov and Wojciech Todorow will screen in the main competition of the 38th Golden Rose National Film Festival (24 September - 1 October 2020).

VARNA: A total of 19 feature films and 22 shorts will be screened in the two official competitions of the 38th Golden Rose National Film Festival (24 September - 1 October 2020). Fourteen features were supported with public financing, three were coproduced by the Bulgarian National Television, and four were privately financed.

SOFIA: The Bulgarian-born Canadian animator Theodore Ushev started the shooting of his first feature film, a dark dystopia based on Vladislav Todorovs novel The Spinning Top. The actual film title φ1.618 refers to the Golden Ratio.

SOFIA: Writer/director Pavel G. Vesnakov is in the final postproduction stage of his first feature film German Lessons, a Bulgarian/German coproduction between Moviemento and Heimathafen Film & Media.

SOFIA: The long-awaited shooting of the thriller Till Death by Australian director Scott Dale, starring Megan Fox and produced by Millennium Media, started on 6 August 2020 in Bulgaria. The shooting of the film, initially scheduled for March 2020, was postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Till Death is now the first American production coming back to the Sofia based Nu Boyana Film Studios, after a series of safety protocols carefully prepared by the country’s institutions.
