VARNA: Magdalena Ralcheva’s sophomore feature 12A will screen in the main competition of the 35th Golden Rose Bulgarian National Film Festival (30 September - 7 October 2017). It is the first Bulgarian privately financed film produced by former Chief Executive Director of Nu Boyana David Varod after his departure from the studios.

SOFIA: Bulgarian film director Lyubomir Mladenov is completing postproduction of his second feature film Ship in a Room. It is another title from the group of successful films shot mainly by younger film directors after the Bulgarian National Film Center introduced its low-budget format in 2014.

VARNA: A total of 16 feature films will be screened in the national official competition of the 35th Golden Rose National Film Festival (30 September-7 October 2017). Five feature films and two short films with Bulgarian minority participation will be screened in the new programme Minority Coproductions Focus.

SOFIA: Acclaimed Bulgarian theatre director Galin Stoev is about to complete the postproduction of his debut feature The Infinite Garden. Shot in Bulgaria and Italy, this poetic love story is expected to become the first Bulgarian urban romance to combine sad elegance with a refined aesthetic style.

VARNA: Hungarian film The Citizen, directed by Roland Vranik, was awarded Golden Aphrodite for best film at the 25th edition of the Love is Folly International Film Festival organised by the Congress and Festival Centre-Varna from 25 August to 3 September 2017.

SARAJEVO: Bulgarian film director Milko Lazarov presented his new project Nanook at CineLink Work-in-Progress, that took place from 14 to 16 August 2017 in the framework of Sarajevo Film Festival’s CineLink Industry Days.

SOFIA: Bulgarian film director Milko Lazarov is in postproduction with his second feature film Nanook. This Bulgarian / German / French coproduction was shot in Sakha (Yakutia) Republic within the Russian Federation, known as one the coldest places on earth. The project will participate in the forthcoming CineLink Work in Progress of the Sarajevo IFF.

SOFIA: Bulgarian film director Konstantin Bojanov is preparing his third feature film, Your Eyes. It will be a smooth transition from his unfinished documentary In Search of a Miracle, which is focused on the ancient tradition of sexual exploitation under the flag of religion. Your Eyes will be entirely shot in India in cooperation with French, Belgian and Indian partners. 

SOFIA: Artscope, the new talent arm of Paris based sales outfit Memento Films International, has picked up Ilian Metev’s feature debut Three Quarters / ¾. This Bulgarian/German coproduction will compete in the Cineasti Del Presente international competition of the 70th Locarno Film Festival. Metev’s long documentary Sofia’s Last Ambulance won a critical kudos and numerous international awards.

SOFIA: Bulgarian-born Canadian animator Theodore Ushev is preparing his first feature film The Spinning Top. Romanian, Macedonian and Serbian coproducers are welcomed. Ushev was nominated at the Oscars 2017 in the Short Animated Film Category with Blind Vaysha.
