Hungarian director Tamas Toth picked up the best director prize for his film Wolf at the European Independent Film Festival 2008 in Paris on Sunday. The weekend event featured 102 films from 28 countries, the festival website said.

Wolf competed in the European dramatic features category against 12 other films. The 71-minute film is set in a small Siberian village and tells the dreamlike story of a man who is believed to speak the language of animals. It premiered in Hungary at the 38^th Hungarian Film Week in 2007.

Toth told the Hungarian news agency MTI that his film was very well received by Italian, American and Serbian colleagues during the festival, and that strong interest was expressed for distribution in the UK.
