Katyn wins 7 Polish Eagles

Andrzej Wajda's Katyń picked up the Eagle award for Best Polish Film of 2008 as well as six other Eagles at this year's ceremony held by the Polish Film Academy on April 14.

The film also won Best Music Score (Krzysztof Penderecki), Best Supporting Actress (Danuta Stenka), Photography (Pawel Edelman), Sound (Jacek Hamela) and Best Design and Best Costumes, according to the Polish Film Institute website

The Best Actress award in the Polish version of the Oscars went to 93-year-old Danuta Szaflarska for her role in Dorota Kedzierzawska's Time to Die. Andrzej Jakimowski's Tricks won the Eagle for Best Direction as well as the Audience Award.

Katyń is based on the massacre by Soviet secret police of 20,000 Polish officers in 1940 in the Katyń forest and two other sites. The film was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Foreign Film category.
