21 April 2008 By FNE Staff

Muzika, a film by Juraj Nvota about the joys and travails of musicians and music lovers, captured nine awards given by the Slovak Film and Television Academy in a gala ceremony Saturday night in Bratislava, according to the Slovak news agency TASR. The biennial awards to domestic film producers and actors are Slovakia's equivalent of the Oscars.

Muzika was the recipient of 2008 "Slnko v Sieti" (The Sun in a Net) national awards for Best Full-Length Picture (producer Marian Urban), Best Direction (Juraj Nvota), Best Editing (Alois Fisarek), Best Sound (Tom Korr), Best Score (Robert Mankovecky), Best Supporting Actress (Jana Olhova), and Best Actor (Lubos Kostelny, starring as Martin Junec). The film was produced by ALEF Film & Media Group (www.afm.sk).

The Best Documentary award went to director Marko Skop for Other Worlds. Director Ivana Sebestova received an award in the Best Animation category for Four. Grbavica, a Bosnia-Austria-Croatia-Germany co-production directed by Jasmila Zbanic, captured the Best Foreign Film award.

The "Slnko v Sieti" awards are named after a film considered one of the best in Slovak history. They were launched in 2004 by the Slovak Film and Television Academy. Held every two years, the awards seek to promote Slovak films with the general public.
