34. Polish Film Festival in Gdynia
Gdynia Polish Film Festival Competition Spotlight : My Flesh My Blood
21 September 2009 By Katarzyna Grynienko
My Flesh My Blood by director Marcin Wrona combines the clash between two cultures with a universal story about the need of continuity.

ImageIgor, a boxer, suffers fatal brain damage during one of his fights. Left with a short time to live, he decided he wants to leave a child on this Earth. He fails to make several chance relationships to work, while his time runs out. Suddenly he meets Yen, a Vietnamese woman who needs to get married in order to get Polish citizenship. The couple makes a deal, but Igor finds out that he doesn't have enough time to marry the girl and see his child. He decides to find her a new groom and a father for his baby.

The script for My Flesh My Blood (Tamagotchi), written by Marcin Wrona and Grażyna Trela, was the winner of the Polish edition of the Hartley-Merril competition and took 3rd place in the international edition of the same contest in 2007. The win insured a quick production for the title, which was shot on location in April and May 2008.

Before the screening in Gdynia, My Flesh My Blood was recognized locally during the "Youth and Film" Debut Film Festival in Koszalin, winning prizes for the best script, best sound and the Journalist's Award.

The movie was produced by Opus Film (www.opusfilm.com) in co-operation with Public Polish Television - Film Agency (www.tvp.pl) and Canal+ Polska with a budget of the 3.8 million PLN (€920,000). The film received 1.9 million for production and 50,000 PLN for development financing from the Polish Film Institute (www.pisf.pl). The Polish premiere of the picture is planned for the fall of 2009.

Grazyna Torbicka
FNE Ambassador for Poland

"For me its very very useful, I receive and read it every day. It is very useful to know what's going on in the region and it was previously an undiscovered area. FNE is doing a very good job. FNE informs us about not only film but also TV and production. Very often I am using some subjects from FNE in my TV programme"
