34. Polish Film Festival in Gdynia
Gdynia Polish Film Festival Competition Spotlight: Never Say Never
21 September 2009 By Katarzyna Grynienko
In Never Say Never directof Wojciech Pacyna explores the workplace world where women are as driven as men.

ImageThirty-year-old Ama is a successful, cold and efficient headhunter working for international corporations. She lives the typical life of an independent Warsaw single woman, who lets of steam in night clubs were she parties till morning and picks up random men. However, under the shell of a dry and stand-offish career woman she hides her hope to have a child, a dream she had left in the past by putting her work first. Her best friend Edyta, an eccentric artist, has started a new relationship with a police officer. Ama's life falls off track when she mixes personal and professional life for the first time, going on a date with Marek, a handsome guy who she "hunted" for a client in Sillicon Valley.

The movie was shot in Warsaw between September and October 2008. The director is the author and co-creator of two popular Polish television series. The script was written by Jerzy Niemczyk, Iwona Siemieniuk and Paweł Mosakowski.

"Our heroine is trying to find herself and redefine her own needs, get some distance, look at herself and find her new place in life. The first version of the script was closer to the genre of a romantic comedy, but as we worked on the script it evolved into a light caliber drama, and the finished product has also comedy elements with what I hope is a satisfying ending for the viewer," Pacyna said. Never Say Never gathers a cast of popular Polish actors including Anna Dereszowska, Edyta Olszówka and Robert WiÄ™ckiewicz, all stars of the Polish 2008 box office hit Ladies directed by Tomasz Konecki.

The movie is produced by Filmcontract (www.filmcontract.pl) in co-production with Telekomunikacja Polska S.A.( www.tp.pl ). Filmcontract told FNE that the total budget of the film was 3.1 million PLN (€750,000). Never Say Never recieved 2 million PLN in production financing from the Polish Film Institute ( www.pisf.pl). The Polish distributor of the picture is Kino Åšwiat International (www.kinoswiat.pl) and the premiere is planned for the November 6, 2009.
