RIGA IFF on the lookout for new script ideas

    Submissions are now open for one of the Riga International Film Festival's (RIGA IFF) core industry events – the 4th edition of European Script Meeting, which will take place on October 23-24, 2018.

    European Script Meeting links up various idea initiators of film projects with screenwriting professionals to negotiate their involvement – as writers, editors, script consultants, doctors, analysts, mentors, etc.

    The aim of the initiative is to foster new cross-border partnerships in order to develop screenplays for international audiences. It is primarily focused on full-length fiction films at the early idea development stage but is open to all film types, genres and exhibition formats at any stage, as long as there is still need for the writer's involvement. The representatives of the selected 10 to 12 projects from all over Europe are granted an opportunity to discuss potential collaboration with a corresponding number of experienced screenwriting professionals in one-to-one meetings. For screenwriters, this is a unique platform to promote and expand their professional abilities. 

    Since the project was launched in 2014, it has managed to enrol more than 35 projects and engage 20 screenwriters from a number of countries, such as – Iceland, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Kosovo, Serbia, Macedonia, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Germany, Italy, France, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, Austria, Hungary, Croatia, Czech Republic and others. 

    The screenwriting professionals that will participate in this year’s event: writer, producer and the CEO of a production company Witcraft Ursula Wolschlager (Austria), screenwriter, playwright, performer, and film director Ivo Briedis (Latvia), script analyst Artur Wyrzykowski (Poland) and screenwriter, founder of the creative platform for scriptwriters StoryLab.pro Agnieszka Kruk (Poland), as well as script consultant Margit Keerdo-Dawson (Estonia), and screenwriter, script consultant Leana Jalukse (Estonia). The list of screenwriters is being updated and can be found on esm.rigaiff.lv. The call for projects is open till August 15, 2018.

    The fifth edition of Riga International Film festival will take place from October 18 - 31. RIGA IFF consists of thirteen film programmes, diverse industry events and a selection of thought provoking public discussions.
