New visual & Submission deadline

Playing with the light? Visual concept of the 24th Ji.hlava unveiled

The visual design for the twenty-fourth festival edition was a challenge. We don’t want to pretend that this year’s edition will be the same as the previous ones. The contrast of black and white, the concept of black and deeper black creates ambiguous metaphoric environment. “You can easily imagine: / Full moon, / Vinyl record hole, / Light at the end of the tunnel“ writes the visual artist Juraj Horváth in his poem that traditionally accompanies his festival design.

East West Index: Results of an exclusive documentary festival survey

Which regions are underrepresented in the programming of film festivals and why? This was the main focus of a debate organised by the Ji.hlava IDFF at the Marché du Film. Several hundred film professionals watched an online live stream, the recording of which you can now watch here. You can also check out the interesting results of the East-West Index survey, recently conducted at 11 festivals across the globe. This initiative seems to have opened an important discussion, and we would be curious to hear your feedback and inputs here.

Submit your docs to the Ji.hlava IDFF by July 31

Time is running and the deadline for submissions is drawing near. By July 31 you can still submit rough cuts and films that have so far not had a festival world premiere. We accept feature-length and short films as well as animated and interactive documentaries. Films premiered at Ji.hlava have the chance to be nominated for the European Film Academy Awards and are also eligible for Oscar® consideration. In total, almost 25,000 EUR will be accorded to the winners.

Promotion opportunities at the 24th Ji.hlava IDFF

The 24th Ji.hlava will again address large numbers of film fans and professionals, both online and offline, thus offering a wide range of promotion possibilities. We invite you to use this opportunity to advertise in the festival printed and online materials, host an event during the festival, or distribute your promotional materials to festival guests. Ji.hlava echoing in Slovakia

After the successful pre-pandemic Echoes of Ji.hlava IDFF held in New York, Brussels and Vienna, we now bring the digest of our 2019 edition to Bratislava, where the public can enjoy thirteen diverse events – outdoor screenings and debates – until August 18. The Echoes will be concluded with a masterclass by Lina Zacher who will introduce Slovak viewers to her film Fonja, the Opus Bonum winner at the 23rd Ji.hlava (Cristi Puiu, the last year’s head juror, gave to the film both the main award and the special mention!)

    Getting ready for Sarajevo

We are finalising the selection of the 16th edition of Docu Talents from the East – a presentation of the most remarkable documentary projects from the Central and Eastern Europe in post-production. The projects will be announced very soon at our website and then presented at the Sarajevo Film Festival on August 16. On the same occasion, we will announce the names of the eighteen Emerging Producers 2021, so stay tuned!
