Family Cinema Weekend at 36. WFF

Although most of the screenings during 36th Warsaw Film Festival are intended for adult viewers, we don’t forget about our youngest audiences! The program of Family Cinema Weekend includes films that can’t really be found in multiplexes – films that are really smart, warm, thoughtful, that encourage spending time in a careful and productive manner, that encourage empathy, sensitivity and appreciation of true family values and friends. At the Festival we also create a very special space for the kids, thanks to which they learn to actively participate in the cultural life of their home city. Come join us!

***ATTENTION: FESTIVAL TICKET PRESALE BEGINS ON OCTOBER 1!***

    FEATURE FILMS PROGRAMME:

THE PEPPERCORNS AND THE SECRET OF THE DEEP SEA / ZIARNA PIEPRZU I TAJEMNICA MORSKICH GŁĘBIN / DIE PFEFFERKÖRNER UND DER SCHATZ DER TIEFSEE, dir. Christian Theede, Germany 2020, 94 min.

Twelve-year-old Alice can hardly believe her luck. She is allowed to spend the holidays with her friend Tarun. But their plan to enjoy the summer is quickly turned upside down. Tarun's mother Jaswinder, a marine researcher who has found a way to reduce the level of plastic waste in the oceans, is attacked at the research station, and highly secret documents are stolen. Then one night, Jaswinder disappears without a trace from the research ship. Alice and Tarun go in search of her with the help of their three new Peppercorn friends. Together they come face to face with the dubious garbage mogul Robert Fleckmann, who seems to know more about Jaswinder’s research than she had anticipated. A race against time begins. An exciting adventure film for the whole family. A humorous story with many extraordinary plot twists about young detectives who must join forces to complete a dangerous mission for a noble cause. For kids aged 8 and over.

MONTY AND THE STREET PARTY / MONTY I ULICZNA IMPREZA / MUGGE & VEJFESTEN, dir. Anders Morgenthaler, Mikael Wulff, Denmark 2019, 80 min.

„Today was 1000% perfect and tomorrow will be even better!” - says Monty, the happiest boy in the world. He lives with his parents, whom he loves more than anything in the world. Besides them, more than anything he loves the annual street party. This is an idyllic neighbourhood. Everything is wonderful, even the eccentric neighbours: Henrik the inventor, quintuplets Allan, Allan, Allan, Allan and Allan, cat ladies Tove and Karen, and a few nuns who always walk around on stilts. But one day everything changes. Monty’s mother falls in love with a CrossFit instructor and is leaving his father, who becomes depressed. Monty’s best friend decides she is too old to play with him. To top it all, the annual street party has been cancelled. This will not do! Monty will do anything to get things back to the way they were. Full of bizarre humour, this is a wild story about a purple-haired boy who simply cannot fail. For kids aged 9 and over.

SUNE - BEST MAN / SUNE - NAJLEPSZY DRUŻBA, dir. Jon Holmberg, Sweden 2020, 87 min.

Sune is excited about going on a class trip. They’re going on “the secret journey”. The most exciting thing is that he will be on the trip with his friend Sophie. They have been looking forward to spending time together. Suddenly he realizes that Grandpa Helmer’s wedding is the same weekend as the trip. Panic! Class trip with Sophie, or his grandpa’s wedding, at which Sune is to be best man? He can’t make his mind up so he decides to do both. Or something in between. A film with lots of action, humour and heart, about the adventures of the Andersson family. A continuation of last year’s Swedish box-office hit, “Sune vs Sune”, the film was screened at this year’s Berlin Film Festival. For kids aged 8 and over.
