CANNES: The prestigious Krzysztof Kieslowski ScripTeast Award for the Best Eastern and Central European Script was awarded to Polish scriptwriting duo Bartosz Konopka and Przemyslaw Nowakowski for their screenplay The Mute at a gala ceremony in Cannes last night. 

PRAGUE: Eight films representing five continents will compete in each the two main international competitions of films for children and youth at the 53rd Zlin IFF running 27 May – 1 June 2013.

CANNES: Thousands of audiovisual industry professionals have called on the European Commission to take film funding off the table in EU US trade negotiation talks warning the measures threaten the survival of the industry.

BUDAPEST: Two films received development support in the latest round of grants from the Hungarian National Film Fund, in addition to four films which received production support and six films receiving script development funding in an earlier round.

Solar Studios Launched in Romania

The former Kentauros Studios, located 20 km from central Bucharest, will be relaunched as Solar Studios in a joint venture between Solar Entertainment Group and Romanian real estate developer Dragos Savulescu, who recently acquired the property.

Growth Spurs Cinema City Profits

CEE exhibitor Cinema City saw a 14.1 percent rise in revenues, to 71.3 m EUR, and 6.3 percent rise in ticket sales (9.1 m) in Q1 2013 over Q1 2012 results, due to an increase in the number of cinemas and screens.

Welcomed by the greatest film festival in the world, the European Rendez-Vous, organised by the MEDIA programme, including the MEDIA conference Think Audience Strategy, will take place this year on the 20 May.

CANNES: Adam Csaszi's male love story Land of Storms  which is in postproduction has already been sold by the German sales outfit, m-appeal to several territories during Cannes Film Festival.

TALLINN: Kiur Aarma, Estonian film producer, screenwriter and musician had an international hit with the 2009 documentary Disco and Atomic War, which he produced and co-wrote (best documentary at Jihlava and Warsaw). 

CANNES: Russia’s new largest purpose-built film and TV studio, GLAVKINO, set up by filmmaker Fyodor Bondarchuk and Ilya Bachurin, have announced its first feature film production investments and the intention to expand its studio facilities.

CANNES: The Malta based Film Corporation has become one of the leaders in European production services during its five short years of operation in Malta with over a dozen international productions serviced from Germany, Russia, Japan, France and the UK.
