WARSAW: Renowned Polish film director, screenwriter and producer Jacke Bromski was named the Head of the Polish Film Institute Board by Minister of Culture and National Heritage Małgorzata Omilanowska.

TALLINN: A Czech/Slovak/Greek coproduction Kids from the East and a Polish film project about a man with Alzheimer’s Disease were among the winners of the Baltic Event awards handed out on 27 November 2014 in the medieval Tallinn Town Hall, where guests were welcomed by Baltic Event managing director Marge Liiske.

TALLINN: Slovenian producer Ales Pavlin of PERFO Production was at the Baltic Event taking place in Tallinn through 28 November 2014 to pitch Jan Cvitkovic’s fifth film Our Family.

SOFIA: The 28th edition of the annual film fest Cinemania, running in the three biggest Bulgarian towns of Sofia, Plovdiv and Varna, is showing 57 new international hits and auteur films in new or renovated theatres.

Taskovski Films Picks up Sugar Blues

PRAGUE: London film sales company Taskovski Films has picked up the Czech documentary Sugar Blues directed by Andrea Culkova.

TALLINN: A trio of films put Estonia on the international map in 2014, Estonian Film Institute head Edith Sepp told FNE.

TALLINN: When it comes to Tallinn’s film industry meeting point, the Baltic Event running 24-28 November 2014, Estonia is punching way above its weight. FNE spoke with Marge Liiske, managing director of the Baltic Event, just as the 13th edition was going into full swing.

TALLINN: The new Lithuanian tax incentives scheme for films, introduced just 11 months ago, “is working quite well,” Lithuanian Film Centre project manager Kristina Vildziunaite said at a presentation taking place at the Baltic Event, which runs through 28 November 2014.

PRODUCTION: Pakalnina Rises with Dawn

TALLINN: Latvian auteur and producer Laila Pakalnina is in postproduction with Dawn, a Latvian/Estonian/Polish coproduction which participated in the Baltic Event Works in Progress presentation on 26 November 2014.

TALLINN: A diplomatic breakthrough trip by a delegation from the Estonian Film Institute has turned up what may be the first fiction film shot in Estonia, a 1913 comedy titled Borrowed Wife, at the Gosfilmofond archives in Russia.

PRODUCTION: Banat in Preproduction

BUCHAREST: Italian director/screenwriter Adrian Valerio is in preparation with his first feature Banat, a coproduction between Italy, Romania, Bulgaria and Macedonia set for shooting in 2015.
