FNE at Sarajevo FF: Album Wins the 22nd Sarajevo FF

    SARAJEVO: The Turkish/French/Romanian coproduction Album by Mehmet Can Mertoğlu, a debut feature, won the Heart of Sarajevo for Best Feature Film at the 22nd Sarajevo Film Festival (12-20 August 2016).

    The rest of the awards in the feature film competition were split between Godless by Ralitza Petrova (a Bulgarian/Danish coproduction) and Dogs by Bogdan Mirică (a French/ Romanian/Bulgarian coproduction).


    The feature film competition jury was composed of: Elia Suleiman, Director (President), Zeynep Atakan, Nikola Đuričko, Thomas Hailer and Angeliki Papoulia, while the short film competition jury was composed of: Fatima Djoumer, Dušan Kasalica and Jure Pavlović.


    Romania won five awards and mentions in the competition programme, including the Heart of Sarajevo for Best Documentary awarded to A Mere Breath by Monica Lăzurean Gorgan. The documentary competition jury was composed of Tine Ficher, Fernand Melgar and Alexander Nanau.


    Additionally, another two Romanian coproductions were awarded at CineLink. Eurimages Coproduction Development Award (in the amount of 20,000 EUR) went to God Exists, Her Name Is Petrunija (Macedonia) by Teona S Mitevska.
    The TRT Award, the biggest award in the Work in Progress section of CineLink (in the amount of 30,000 EUR), went to Hostages, the debut feature by the Georgian director Rezo Gigineishili.


    Honorary Hearts of Sarajevo went to Robert De Niro, Stephen Frears and Wolfgang Amadeus Brülhart, Former Deputy Chief of Mission and Cultural Counselor at the Embassy of Switzerland in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
