The 10th Cyprus Film Days International Film Festival (20-29 April 2012, www.cyprusfilmdays.com) is accepting entries through 3 February 2012 for its international competition programme, "Glocal Images."The festival is organized by the Cyprus Ministry of Education and Culture and the Rialto Theatre.

WARSAW: The discussion on the funding of public broadcasting in Poland has resulted in two draft amendments to the law on TV and radio licenses.

PRAGUE: Czech director and screenwriter Bohdan Slama is in the final stages of postproduction with the drama Four Suns, which is expected to be completed in early 2012 for a Czech release on 8 March 2012. The film has been selected to screen in competition at the Sundance Film Festival in late January.

WARSAW: Nineteen documentary films will compete for the main prize of the 11^th edition of Watch Docs IFF (8-18 December 2011, watchdocs.pl), with a focus on the topic of human rights.

WARSAW: Poland's New Horizons Association (www.nowehoryzonty.pl), the organizer of the New Horizons IFF and distributor of art house films, announced that it has picked up seven new titles, including several CEE films.

(TBILISI) The 12th Tbilisi International Film Festival (www.tbilisifilmfestival.ge) opened on 6 December with a screening of Faust directed by Alexander Sokurov. The festival runs through 11 December.

Domestic films have taken 17% of the market share in Finnish cinemas, according to data released by Finnish distributors. As of the end of November 2011, admissions to Finnish films had reached 1.117 million.

The international conference on film exhibition in Europe winds to a close in Paris on 7 December with a panel discussion on how European arthouse cinemas are preparing for the future. Participants include Greta Akcijonaite of Kino Pasaka in Vilnius and Tibor Biro of CINE-MIS in Miskolc, Hungary. Biro is currently featured on the FNE Europa Cinema of the Month profile.

BUCHAREST: The Romanian domestic film industry remained steady in 2011, while coproductions and foreign films were on the rise. The foreign interest in the Romanian films continues and national films again received numerous prizes in festivals and attracted distribution internationally, while new festivals emerged inside the borders. Despite the regulation that there be two calls for grants, in 2011 there was just one session of the production grant contest organized by the National Centre for Cinema (www.cncinema.abt.ro). However, many co-productions were shot in Romania in 2011 as well as foreign productions, including Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance the biggest American film shot in Romania since Cold Mountain (2002).

BUCHAREST: Director, screenwriter and producer Tudor Giurgiu is developing his third feature and currently co-writing the third draft with Loredana Novak. The film will be produced by Libra Film (www.librafilm.net).

Lithuanian commercial TV broadcaster LNK (lnk.lt) has acquired the competitive game show My Man Can from German sales company SevenOne International. The show will debut on LNK in January 2012.

ZAGREB: Director/screenwriter Branko Schmidt is in postproduction with the dramatic feature film Cannibal Vegetarian, with an expected completion date of February 2012. The 85-minute film is produced by Stanislav Babic for Telefilm.

In Darkness, the Polish Oscar entry directed by Agnieszka Holland won the main competition award, the Golden Frog, for cinematographer Jolanta Dylewska at the Plus Camerimage IFF (www.pluscamerimage.pl), which ended on 3 December 2012.

LJUBLJANA: The 8th Animateka IFF, which kicks off 5 December 2011, puts films from Central and Eastern Europe on prominent display, with a CEE short animated film competition and a panorama of CEE films.
