Bosnia and Herzegovina Selects Men Don’t Cry as Oscar Candidate

    SAREJEVO: Alen Drljević’s debut feature Men Don’t Cry has been chosen as the official candidate from Bosnia and Herzegovina for the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences nomination in the Best Foreign Language Film category. The 90th Oscars will be held on 4 March 2018.

    The film was selected by a committee of nine film professionals. Men Don’t Cry follows a group of veterans from the three sides of the former Yugoslavian war, who are gathered together by a peace organisation.

    Men Don't Cry / Muškarci Ne Plaču was produced by Deblokada Sarajevo from Bosnia and Herzegovina in coproduction with Slovenia's Iridium Film, Germany's Menderley Films, Croatia's Produkcija Živa and Serbia's Cineplanet.

    The film was awarded the Special Jury Mention in the competition programme and the Europa Cinema Label Award for Best European Film in competition at the 52th Karlovy Vary IFF.

    The application deadline for the 90th Academy Awards in Best Foreign Language Film category is 2 October 2017.
