FNE at Sofia Meetings 2014: New Audiences and New Opportunities

    SOFIA: Sofia Meetings hosted a number of events that emphasized the development of new audiences for European cinema during the three day event (13-16 March 2014). 

    The Creative Europe Desk-Bulgaria organised an Information day for funding and training opportunities during the next seven years with the participation of the EACEA Head of Promotion, Training and Festivals Soon-Mi Peten. According to Mira Staleva, Head of Sofia Meetings, “this cooperation is important and we intend to maintain it.” She added that “over 60 percent of the 11-th Sofia Meetings projects come from South Eastern Europe.”   

    The Europa Cinemas workshop "New approaches and audiences in the digital age". Over 35 European film professionals exchanged information on various strategies for film programming and innovative ways for attracting audiences. This is a first collaboration between Europa Cinemas and Sofia Meetings. The other significant event, related to the circulation of European films in Europe was the Europa Distribution workshop, this year focussed on children and younger audiences.

    Three new Bulgarian projects were discovered in the Second films section: Call Me Shakespeare by director Valery Yordanov’s (Sneakers), produced by Chouchkov Bros, I Want To Be Like You by director Konstantin Bojanov’s (Ave), produced by Multfilmand KB Projects East and Nanook by director Milko Lazarov’s (Alienation), produced by Red Carpet Films

    Stefan Komandarev, whose latest co-production The Judgement, coproduced by Argo Film, Neue Mediopolis Filmroduktion, Propeler Film and Sektor Film that opened the Sofia IFF will also present a new project: The Other Man, produced by Argo Film.

    For the first time the Hungarian Filmlab will give a postproduction services award equal to the amount of 10000 EUR. It will be delivered to the best second film project.
