SOFIA: The first season of a French futuristic political series Section Zero by the famous TV director Olivier Marchal, has started shooting in Sofia. It is the most expensive French TV series ever made.

Set in a hostile world of fictional multinational corporations in 2024, the 52 min. 8-episodes series is co-written by Olivier Marchal together with Franck Philippon, Edgar Marie and David Martinez. The main characters are played by a Swedish actor Ola Rapace and French stars Pascal Greggory and Tchéky Karyo. Over 150 Bulgarian crew members are involved in the production and Deyan Donkov, one of the most popular domestic actors, will play the role of a dangerous mobster.

EuropaCorp is producing for the French pay TV broadcaster Canal+ with Bulgaria’s Nu Boyana providing services. Marchal told the Bulgarian media that due to a large amount of special effects and difficult scenes filled with action, the budget of each episode will reach 1.7m EUR. The series will be shot entirely in Bulgaria until mid-July.
