New Head of the Bulgarian National Film Center

    SOFIA: Film director and manager Pavel Vasev was appointed as acting director of the Bulgarian Film Center on 10 March 2015. He is replacing acting director Georgy Cholakov, who was leading the national institution for the last year.

    Vassev graduated from the National Academy for Theatre and Film Art Кrastio Sarafov in 1973. Since then he occupied a number of administrative posts, including executive director of the former TV studio Ekran (1977 - 1991), president of the Union of Bulgarian Film Makers (1996 - 2000), administrative director of the Ivan Vazov National Theatre (2000-2001 and 2009-2014), head of the Bulgarian Cultural Center in Moscow (2001-2006).

    Since 5 January 2015 he has been an advisor for the Minister of Culture Vejdi Rashidov in the field of international cultural policy and the coordination of Bulgarian cultural institutions in the European Union.

    According to the Ministry of Culture, Vassev will be acting director till the next election call for the post.
