Bulgaria sets aside funds to preserve film archive

By

Bulgaria's government is earmarking an additional 440,000 leva (€226,000) to finance restoration of films in the Bulgarian National Film Archive. The money will be used to restore and transfer the rest of the film archives to a new storage facility.

Restoration of the nitrate film archive was designated as a priority by the Council of Ministers because the film is flammable and is in a state of decomposition, said a council statement quoted by the Sofia Echo newspaper.

About 50,000 leva (€25,700) of the amount will be used to transfer the most valuable portion of the documentary films in the archive to modern storage facilities.
