BRATISLAVA: A new Slovak fairytale Láska na Vlásku directed by Mariana Čengel Solčanská has had the best opening weekend for a domestic feature film in the last three years. The film which opened 9 October gathered 14, 427 admissions during its first weekend in cinemas and a total of 17,772 viewers have seen it so far.
VARNA: Stefan Komandarev’s The Judgment was awarded the most prestigious Bulgarian award for a feature film at the 32 edition of the Golden Rose Film Festival. Assen Blatechki also received the award for Best Actor for his role in the film.
WARSAW: The Grand Prix of the 30th Warsaw Film Festival went to The Coffin In The Mountain, a Chinese drama directed by Xin Yukun.
ZAGREB: The 12th edition of Zagreb Film Festival (19-26 October 2014) presents more than one hundred films in a dozen different programmes.
This year the FNE partners with the Jihlava International Documentary Festival who will be presenting its Emerging Producers project 22-26 October 2014 as a part of the event. The Jihlava Emerging Produers brings together talented documentary film producers from EU countries. FNE has spoken to all the young emerging producers from the CEE region and will be bringing you exclusive profiles of these new talents.
TARTU: Tartu, the second largest city in Estonia is setting up a regional film fund for incoming productions. The fund is initially budgeted at approximately 100,000 EUR annually and is part of an ambitious initiative aimed at turning Tartu into the country’s main film hub.
VARNA: Scriptwriter/director Maya Vitkova’s film portrays the first decade after the communist era through a story of a girl born with no umbilical cord. Viktoria screens at the Varna Golden Rose Film Festival 11-17 October 2014.
BUCHAREST: The new project Ana, Mon Amour from the acclaimed writer/director Călin Peter Netzer will investigate the romantic relationship with all its dependencies and crisis situations against the backdrop of the social realities of Romania.
VARNA: The Lesson was inspired by the real story of a teacher caught in a bank robbery attempt. Scriptwriters/directors/producers Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov focused their debut feature on a fictional English teacher from a high school near Sofia. The Lesson screens in the main competition of the Varna Golden Rose Film Festival (11-17 October 2014).
