Game of Thrones Seasons Six and Seven to Be Shot in Croatia

    ZAGREB: Seasons six and seven of HBO television series Game of Thrones will be partially shot in Croatia, where HBO is expected to invest over 8m EUR with local partners.

    The 6th season is expected to be shot in 2015 in Dubrovnik. According to Croatia Week, the Croatian Minister of Entrepreneurship and Trades Gordan Maras recently met with the HBO senior executive Jay Roewe, who confirmed the investment.

    Suncica Plestina, the head of the Filming in Croatia department at the Croatian Audiovisual Centre, told FNE that HBO hasn’t applied for the tax incentive scheme for the 6th season yet and is expected to do so in August.

    HBO spent around 5.7m EUR /43m HRK in Croatia in 2014, and got a return of investment of approximately 1.1m EUR/8.5m HRK. Game of Thrones came to Croatia in 2011,when the second season was partially shot, with Embassy Film providing services.

    Game of Thrones was one of the first beneficiaries of the cash rebate scheme guaranteeing the return of up to 20% of projects' qualifying expenditure which was implemented in Croatia in January 2012.
