NICOSIA: The independent feature Eleftheria – Woman of Cyprus is currently in preproduction hoping to raise 0.5m USD on Indiegogo until 28 January 2015. American star Olympia Dukakis has agreed to play the title role depending on the final script approval and her schedule.

The film, based on several different true stories, is a drama about a Cypriot mother Eleftheria and her 29-year search for her missing son Spiros, who was taken by the Turkish army during the Turkish invasion in 1974.

The script is written by a Pulitzer-nominated American writer and journalist Matthew Stowell, who is also producing. According to Indiegogo, the director hasn’t been chosen yet, but the local media inform that American DoP Stephen Kazmierski is considering directing.

The estimated budget is 1,720,720 EUR/2m USD. For now, the goal of the campaign is to raise production money. American and European producers are expected. The cast will include local talents from Cyprus but also the UK popular Cypriot actors Christopher Greco and Dimitris Dimitriou.
