Domestic Films Grab Local Audiences

    PRAGUE: Domestic films are holding strong in Lithuania, Czech Republic and Slovenia.

    The fifth film in the Kamenak comedy series, Christmas Kamenak directed by F.A. Brabec, stayed in first place in the Czech Republic in its second week in distribution.

    Gangster Ka African by Jan PachlThe small town comedy set during the Advent season was produced by Pavel Pasek and written by Marcel Bystron. Since it opened on 3 December 2015, it took in 5.9 m CZK with 51,828 admissions in the Czech Republic where it is distributed by Indigo Film. In Slovakia, it took in 42,000 EUR with 8,418 admissions on 53 screens. It dropped to second place in Slovakia, with 9,983 admissions and box office of 49,535 EUR.

    Also hanging on is Gangster Ka: African, the second film of the two-part Gangster Ka story of a Mafioso criminial, directed by Jan Pachl and produced by Adam Dvorak for Movie and coproduced by Czech TV. The film is in third place in the Czech Republic, with 83,525 admissions and just under 11 m CZK in box office. In Slovakia, the film is in 15th place in its third week in distribution, with just over 3,500 admissions and box office of 20,000 EUR. holding on to the 17th spot after 12 weeks in distribution.     Siska Deluxe by Jan Cvitkovic, photo: Perfo ProductionIn Slovenia, Jan Cvitkovic’s slacker comedy Siska Deluxe is in 13th spot after seven weeks in distribution, hitting 13,270 admissions and box office of 54,000 EUR. Siska Deluxe opened in Slovenia on 29 October in second place, holding on to that spot for its first week in release. The film is a Slovenian/Czech/Macedonian coproduction from Perfo Evolution Film and Kino Oko Production.

    The Lithuanian documentary The Green Musketeers directed by Jonas Ohman stayed in second place in its fourth week in distribution. The film, produced by Ketvirta Versija, recounts the story of a group of young Lithuanian hikers in the 1980’s who grew into the leaders of the national revival movement. The film opened on 13 November, distributed by Singing Fish, with 69,115 admissions to date and 325,080 LTL in box office.
