Film Archives Congress Meets in Prague

By

PRAGUE: The 74th Congress of FIAF, the International Federation of Film Archives, is running from 22 to 27 April 2018 in Prague, hosted by the National Film Archives of the Czech Republic under the leadership of CEO Michal Bregant.

The occasion marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of FIAF, and is funded in part by the Czech Film Fund. The programme will cover such topics as sharing/exchanges of materials and open source tools for open source preservation.

The Czech host will be showing off some of their earliest films, made between 1898 and 1911 by Jan Krizenecky, whose original negatives have been digitised. There will also be a screening of the digitally restored 1969 black and white film by Pavel Juracek A Case for the Hangman, which was banned after only a few screenings, as well as new and old films (digitally restored) by some of the most notable Czech filmmakers Vera Chytilova and Jan Svankmajer, and Frantisek Vlacil.
