By

Wim Wenders and Mike Leigh will open and close this year's Febiofest, running March 26 - April 3 in Prague.

Slovak actress Božidara Turzonovová joins directors Thomas Vinterberg (Denmark), Amir Nadiri (Iran), and Marco Bechis (Italy) presenting films at the Prague Febiofest (www.febiofest.cz) .

A competition of 14 Young European Film will be decided by a jury of 33 people aged 15 and older, chosen to represent festival film audiences.

Programme directors Hana Cielová and Štefan Uhrík (former programmers for the Karlovy Vary Forum of Independents section) announced a selection of competition films spanning Europe, from Great Britain (Duane Hopkins' Better Things) to Turkey (Seyfi Teoman's Summer Book). Also competing are Hooked (director Adrian Sitaru, Romania), The Offsiders (Kasia Adamik, Poland0, and Snow (Aida Begić, Bosnia and Herzegovina).

Organizers admitted that funding has been difficult in the light of the current economy. Funding from the City of Prague and the Ministry of Culture were eliminated. Newcomer Barrandov TV, launched in January, signed on as media partner, replacing public broadcaster Czech TV.
