Small Screen Takes Over Polish Animation Studio

LODZ: British film company Small Screen took over one of the oldest Polish animation studios Se-Ma-For, due to its financial problems. Se-Ma-For has been active since 1947, with more than 1400 movies produced.

BRATISLAVA: Juraj Nvota’s Slovak-Czech coproduction Hostage/Rukojemník had the best opening weekend for a domestic feature film since the beginning of the year.

Beta Cinema Acquires Aferim!

BUCHAREST: Radu Jude's historical film Aferim!, selected for the competition section of Berlinale, will be sold internationally by the German company Beta Cinema. Its press screening and world premiere are set for 11 February.

PRAGUE: The 17th edition of the International Human Rights Film Festival One World, running from 2 to 11 March 2015 under the motto “Burst through your bubble!”, will explore the hottest topics and launch new sections.

Gopo Awards Gala Announced

BUCHAREST: The 9th edition of Gopo Awards gala will take place on 30 March 2015. The application process was launched on 26 January 2015 and will wrap on 6 February 2015.

WARSAW: Italian VoD provider Chili TV has launched its services in Poland and Austria on all internet devices.

PRAGUE: Petr Václav’s The Way Out/Cesta ven won four awards, including Best Feature Film, at the 5th edition of the Czech Critics´ Awards organized by the Czech Critics Association.

WARSAW: Shooting has started for Filip Bajon's new version of the classic Polish comedy Mrs. Dulska's Morality. The premiere is planned for October 2015.

TRIESTE: George Ovashvili's meditative drama Corn Island was awarded Best Film in the feature film competition of the 26th Trieste Film Festival, while the Danish/Polish coproduction Something Better to Come by Hanna Polak was awarded Best Documentary.

VALLETTA: A series entitled Apocalypse Slough, starring Rob Lowe, Jenna Fischer and Megan Mullally, will be partially shot in Malta in the coming months.
