PRAGUE: Marek Najbrt's Protektor was the clear favourite at this year's Czech Lions (6 March) picking up the prize for both best film and best director well as prizes for best script, best editing, best music and best actress.  The Czech Lions are the Czech equivalent of the Oscars.

The annual event held at the famous Lucerna Hall was organized by Vachler Art (www.vac.cz) and the guest list included a who's who of Czech stars.  Presenters  Bolek Polivka and Pavel Liska headlined the show and films clips of the two Czech stars reprising the lead roles in film classics kept the audience roaring with laughter especially a series of clips with the two as the father and son in Jan Sverak's Oscar winning Kolya.  Among the prize presenters were KVIFF (www.kviff.com) helmers Eva Zaoralova and Jiri Bartoska.
