PRAGUE: Alena Hanakova has been put forward for the vacant post of Czech Minister of Culture, following the resignation of Jiri Besser last week.

Hanakova, a member of parliament, was proposed by the TOP 09 party. A group of Czech artists had backed Ivo Mathe, the chancellor of the Czech arts academies (which includes FAMU film school), former advisor to Vaclav Havel during his tenure as Czech president, and former general director of Czech public broadcaster Czech TV.
