Rain follows 11-years-old Ats, whose older brother Rain unexpectedly returns to the family home in a small seaside town to face their authoritarian father Kalju and their mother, a woman on the verge of losing love. Ats is a witness of the clash between his father and brother, two stubborn men from different generations with radically different views of the world. When father tries to push Rain, who has lost his footing, into the boundaries of his world, Rain finds hope in Aleksandra, a mysterious woman with a shady past.
Janno Jürgens expressed his wish of dealing with such timeless topics: “For me, Rain talks about the difficulties and joys of being and growing into a man through the relationships of two brothers, a father and son, as well as friends. At the same time, the film focuses on three generations with their differences and similarities.”
Marcus Borkmann makes his debut on screen as Ats alongside renowned Estonian actors such as Indrek Ojari, Rein Oja, Laine Mägi, Ivo Uukkivi and Meelis Rämmeld.
Kristjan Pütsep is producing through Alasti Kino with a budget of 515,000 EUR, of which 292,000 EUR is covered by a grant from the Estonian Film Institute and 115,000 EUR by the Cultural Endowment of Estonia.
