TALLINN: The 100th anniversary of Estonian film launched on 6 January in Tartu, the birthplace of the first national film director Johannes Paasuke whose first documentary was the now-lost Utotchkin Flying in Tartu on April 14 and 15, 1912. Paasuke also directed the first Estonian feature film, The Parnu County Bear Hunt, in 1914. He was a major documentary of life in Estonia, both through on film and still photographs, many of which will be featured at the centennial events.
