ZAGREB: Foreign film production is on a roll in Croatia. The Croatian Audiovisual Centre estimates that international productions will spend approximately 13.8 m EUR/105 m HRK in Croatia in 2014 with the number of the shooting days increasing every year since 2012.

BUCHAREST: The Romanian Film Center allotted 3,401,250 EUR/15 m RON for film production and development at its first session of 2014.

TALLINN: Estonia will make its first appearance at the Asian Film Market of 19th Busan International Film Festival.

SOFIA: Bulgaria’s Golden Rose Film Festival is establishing a pitching workshop for new projects which have recently received public support for development.

BUCHAREST: After shooting The Mercenary: Absolution with Steven Seagal in March and April 2014, director Keoni Waxman is returning to Romania where he will start shooting entirely the four hour miniseries Vlad The Impaler: Blood Empire on 27 October 2014 with Castel Film again providing facilities.

CEE Territories Unveil Oscar Candidates

Slovakia selected A Step into the Dark by Miroslav Luther (Trigon Productions and Slovak Radio and TV) and the Czech Republic has chosen Fair Play by Andrea Sedláčková (produced by Negativ) as their official candidates for Best Foreign Language Film at the 87th Academy Awards.

BUCHAREST: Freealize will distribute its first film on 7 November and will launch the Romanian portmanteau film Short/4: Tales of Spades end of November.

PRAGUE: Shooting of the new film by Petr Nikolaev Dodgeball was competed at the end of September.

Slovak IGRIC Awards Winners

BRATISLAVA: The Slovak Film Union, Literary Fund and Union of Slovak Television Creators (IGRIC) have announced their annual awards for the best Slovak films of the year. The IGRIC is Slovakia’s oldest film award with a 25 year history and is one of the two most important film awards events in Slovakia together with the Sun a the Net award that is given by the Slovak Film and Television Academy every second year since 2004.

PRAGUE: documentary portal is presenting the first world online retrospective of the famous Czech director Helena Třeštíková under the title A Long Journey through 5 October 5 2014.
