PRODUCTION: Laszlo Kantor’s Új Budapest Filmstúdió Rolls out Slate of European Coproductions

    BUDAPEST: Hungary’s Laszlo Kantor’s Új Budapest Filmstúdió, one of Hungary’s most active producers and European coproducers has unveiled to FNE a slate of new productions and European coproductions.  

    Új Budapest Filmstúdió is in development on a director Bálint Révész’s documentary Granny Project produced by in coproduction with Netherlands’ Lumen Film.

    Granny Project tells the story of three young men coming to terms with their heritage through the extraordinary lives of their fascinating grandmothers: an English spy, a dancer from Nazi Germany and a Hungarian communist Holocaust survivor. It slowly transpires that they are not so different from the young generation of today.

    The budget is 180,000 EUR, László Kántor told FNE. Shooting is scheduled for June 2016 with the premiere set for 2017.

    Another production of Új Budapest Filmstúdió is having its premiere in Brussels today, 1 September 2015. Galloping Mind by the Belgian Wim Vandekeybus is a Belgian-Hungarian-Dutch coproduction between Bart van Longendonk produced through Savage film, László Kántor through Új Budapest Filmstúdió and Petra Goedings through Phanta Vision.

    László Kántor told FNE that the film was shot 95% in Hungary and 5% at the Romanian seaside.The dialogues are in English and Hungarian.

    Új Budapest Filmstúdió, one of Hungary’s leading production and coproduction outfits, has also produced the debut feature My Night Your Day, a black comedy directed by András Dési and Gábor Morai which will have the premiere on 26 November 2015.

    The company is also developing two scripts of two first feature directors for which it already got script development grants from the Hungarian Film Fund, Flatlet Panic / Garzonpanik by Márk Radnai and Mosquito Island / Szunyog-Sziget by Béla Bagota.
