Hungarian Producers Lodge Appeal Against Cinema City Multiplex Acquisition

By FNE Staff

BUDAPEST:The MPSz (National Association of Hungarian Producers) has lodged an appeal with the Hungarian competition office (GHV) to investigate whether the acquisition of Hungarian multiplexes by Israeli based Cinema City International violates EU competition laws.

Cinema City acquired the four Hungarian multiplexes with a total of 47 screens as part of a 28m Euro deal that also included the purchase of the Palace Cinemas in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The deal makes Cinema City the third largest cinema operator in Europe.

The four Hungarian multiplexes give Cinema City a 90% share of the Hungarian multiplex market.
