Polish Film Institute Announces Grants

WARSAW: The Polish Film Institute allotted a new round of grants amounting to 4,219,309 EUR/17,800,000 PLN for feature film production.

TARTU: Tartu, the second largest city in Estonia is setting up a regional film fund for incoming productions. The fund is initially budgeted at approximately 100,000 EUR annually and is part of an ambitious initiative aimed at turning Tartu into the country’s main film hub.

FNE at Golden Rose FF 2014: Viktoria

VARNA: Scriptwriter/director Maya Vitkova’s film portrays the first decade after the communist era through a story of a girl born with no umbilical cord. Viktoria screens at the Varna Golden Rose Film Festival 11-17 October 2014.

EAVE and IDF have teamed up to offer a new scholarship for one producer participating in Ex Oriente Film 2014 to attend the EAVE 2015 Producers Workshop. The scholarship will be granted during the second session of Ex Oriente Film workshop 22-28 October 2014 in Jihlava.

Estonia’s Regional Cinemas Go Digital

TALLINN: Seven regional cinemas in Estonia have received funding to be digitalised in 2014 with five more expected to apply by the end of the year.

BUCHAREST: The new project Ana, Mon Amour from the acclaimed writer/director Călin Peter Netzer will investigate the romantic relationship with all its dependencies and crisis situations against the backdrop of the social realities of Romania.

VARNA: The Lesson was inspired by the real story of a teacher caught in a bank robbery attempt. Scriptwriters/directors/producers Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov focused their debut feature on a fictional English teacher from a high school near Sofia. The Lesson screens in the main competition of the Varna Golden Rose Film Festival (11-17 October 2014).

VARNA: The first Bulgarian/Israeli coproduction is representing Bulgaria at the Academy Awards nominations for Best Foreign Language Film. Ivan Nichev’s Bulgarian Rhapsody screens in the main competition of the Varna Golden Rose Film Festival (11-17 October 2014).

Ida Submitted in Five Oscar Categories

WARSAW: Paweł Pawlikowski’s Polish international hit Ida will compete for an Oscar nod not only in the Best Foreign Film category but also in the main competition for Best Directing, Best Script, Best Cinematography and Best Supporting Acctress.

KATOWICE: UK based international sales and distribution company Phoenix Worldwide Entertainment has bought the rights to turn the hit Bulgarian crime series Undercover into a full length feature film.

Roland Rust Departs Film Festival Cottbus

After working for Film Festival Cottbus since 1992, Roland Rust will move on to address new tasks. He has been the festival's artistic director since 1996 and its director since 2003.

VARNA: Bulgarian film critics consider Milko Lazarov’s debut feature Alienation the “creative surprise of 2013“. The film screens in the main competition of the Varna Golden Rose Film Festival (11-17 October 2014).
