RIGA: Latvian born Russian writer/director Yevgeni Pashkevich's feature film What Silent Gerda Knows (Ko zina klusā Gerda) has entered development stage with distribution rights already acquired by Paris-based WIDE.

What Silent Gerda Knows, now in casting, will be produced by the Latvian company Nida Filma founded by Pashkevich in 2000. What Silent Gerda Knows is expected to be an international coproduction involving both local and foreign actors as well as crew members. Discussions are underway with partners in Hungary, Belgium, UK and Ireland.

The film is described as “a psychological comedy and a burlesque, set today in a cultural and ethnographic reserve in Latvia, where the material world and atmosphere of the 1930’s has been recreated as far as possible and the pension's guests are required to leave all the accessories of modern life: clothing, vehicles and means of communication behind upon entering.”

What Silent Gerda Knows will be Pashkevich's third feature film, after the Latvian/Russian coproduction Gulf Stream Under the Iceberg, which was released in 2011 and was Latvia's official entry for the Foreign Language film Oscar nomination.
