Film Education Initiative for Teachers Launched in Latvia

By

RIGA: The National Film Centre of Latvia in collaboration with the National Centre for Education has developed a new project entitled “Kino Skolās”, which aims at promoting accessibility and knowledge of Latvian films through a comprehensive academic learning process.

“Kino Skolās” provides teachers with suggested teaching methods, a textbook, as well as the opportunity to access Latvian films through the online platform Latvijas Filmas.

This project offers a selection of 21 different films produced in Latvia. The selection includes films that have been produced over the last few years, ranging from animation to documentary and fiction. Both education professionals and film critics have worked to produce material which can be used in a variety of disciplines such as social science, history and politics. The material should help teachers to shed light on certain academic topics, all while promoting the integration of Latvian cinema and Latvian produced films into the general learning process.
