RIGA: The National Film Centre of Latvia has awarded 245,000 EUR to Juris Poskus’ new feature fiction film 24 Hr Sunshine / Saule spīd 24 stundas, an international coproduction between Latvia’s FA Filma and Norway’s Sweet Films.

The jury noted that the film will need additional funding for the production stage.

24 Hr Sunshine, with a planned length of 100 minutes, is expected to be released in 2018. Shooting will take place in Latvia, Russia and Norway.

24 Hr Sunshine will be a hyper-realistic drama about a successful but stressed executive, who starts feeling like a prisoner of his life and material wealth and suddenly leaves it all to join a group of tourists heading to the North Pole. This seems like a symbolic solution that will let him start life anew, but the journey turns into a long and worrisome string of events. He accepts a challenge and joins a Guinness-record obsessed gang to reach the North Pole on foot.

Poskus’ first and second films were awarded at international festivals and he received a best directing award for his debut film.
