Ekis leads Latvian media consolidation effort

By FNE Staff
Andrejs Ekis, founder and chairman of Latvian commercial TV channel LNT (www.lnt.lv), is heading up a plan to create a media association that will consolidate indepedent mass media.

According to the Baltic Course, Ekis' long term strategy is the creation of a regional TV and a channel targeting youth.

The move has the support of the National Broadcasting Council.

LNT and a second station, TV5, were recently acquired by the joint-stock company NNM (Independent National Media). The new organization could include both LNT and TV5, along with a Latvian news channel and a music channel.
