Lithuanian Documentary Tops Local Charts

    VILNIUS: Lithuania is the second Baltic country (alongside Estonia) to have a documentary leading the box office charts over the Easter season. Valstybes Paslaptis, a documentary about Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite directed by Donatas Ulvydas, held on to the number one spot for its second week-end in release.

    The film has taken in 128,076 USD since its release on 12 April 2019. It had a wide release on 136 screens, dropping to 87 screens in its second week.

    The film, whose title translates as State Secrets, follows the current President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite over the course of the past ten years, since she first assumed the office of President in 2009, the first woman to hold that position. Known as the Iron Lady of Lithuania, she rose from working class roots to be the first Lithuanian President to be elected for a second consecutive term.
