The Lithuanian incumbent telco TEO LT has become the first broadcaster in the Baltic Republics to offer its TV subscribers the US sports channel NBA TV.

Basketball is an extremely popular sport in Lithuania, and NBA TV will be distributed by both the Interactive Gala IPTV service and Digital Gala DTT platform, which have over 32,000 and 14,000 subscribers respectively.

    Lithuania's TEO adds NBA TV

October 8, 2008 - Lithuanian telco TEO has added NBA TV to its 'Interactive GALA' IPTV service and 'Digital GALA' DTT service, becoming reportedly the first pay-TV provider in the Baltic States to offer the channel to basketball-hungry Lithuanians.

NBA TV will show games from the US elite basketball league as well as special broadcasts with behind-the-scenes footage and professional commentators from the NBA (broadcasted in English). The channels will be included in the basic package of Interactive GALA TV channels, and will be made available for free to all users of the DTT platform as well.

"The tradition of watching basketball with friends is deep in the blood of every Lithuanian," said Nerijus Ivanauskas, Chief Marketing Officer for TEO. "Now it will no longer be necessary to wait for the once-a-year appearances of the country's national team or the games of Lithuanian clubs. During the season, the NBA's uncompromising games will be available for viewing almost every day, including frequent appearances of Lithuanians playing in the NBA."

TEO currently has more than 32,000 customers for the Interactive GALA TV service and over 14,000 customers for the Digital GALA TV service.
