Sindbad series to shoot in Malta

    Sky 1 has commissioned the costume drama Sindbad from Impossible Pictures, to start shooting in Malta in February. The ambitious project is part of American Sky 1's (sky1.sky.com) multi-million dollar HD drama investment expansion, which has also backed popular shows such as Lost, House M.D. and Fringe.

    Sinbad will chronicle the life of the mythic 8th-century sailor and his fantastic adventures. The producer is Impossible Pictures (www.impossiblepictures.co.uk), a British endeavor specializing in series calling for exotic locations and impressive special effects such as Primeval and Prehistoric Park.

    Principal photography will make use of exotic locations in Malta. Executive producers are Impossible Pictures' Sophie Gardiner and Tim Haines with scripts by a team including Jack Lothian and Neil Biswas. Sky1 executive producer is Annie Harrison-Baxter.

    Sindbad will be distributed internationally on BBC Worldwide (www.bbcworldwide.com). The series will premiere in the United States in the winter of 2011.
