Films Fuel Malta's Legal Sector

By FNE Staff

VALETTA: A surge in film production since Malta's accession to the European Union seven years ago, and the introduction of film incentives in 2007, is fueling growth in Malta's legal sector, according to a new report in The Lawyer.

Malta has been attracting big budget film and television productions over the past four years, with generous tax incentives that offer up to 22% of spend as a rebate in cash after the completion of production.

The report cites Fenech & Fenech Advocates managing partner Ann Fenech, who says the law firm has been recruiting entertainment lawyers as it increases its services in that area. The Lawyer quotes Fenech saying, "We've always developed niche areas when we see the government focusing on certain areas of the economy."
