Disco Polo Beats Gods in Opening Weekend

    WARSAW: Surreal comedy Disco Polo directed by Maciej Bochniak sold over 250,000 tickets during the opening weekend.

    Disco Polo directed by Maciej Bochniak premiered on 27 February 2015 and sold over 250,000 tickets; in comparison, Polish overall box office hit Gods sold 216,000 tickets on the premiere weekend in 2014. Disco Polo is distributed in Poland by Next Film.

    Disco Polo is a surreal, colorful comedy set in the 1990's when political change brought a sense of freedom to Poland. Several "self made men" made fortunes, especially in the entertainment business. Tomek and Rudy, two young country men, set out to conquer the disco polo world. Their careers start in local, provincial clubs but in no time they become stars.

    The film was produces by Alvernia Studios in co-production with Agora and TVN. The final budget of the picture has not yet been revealed. Disco Polo was shot in Bydgoszcz, Łeba and Warsaw in August and September 2014 with a cast of over 60 actors and 2000 extras on set. A cast of popular actors includes Tomasz Kot, Joanna Kulig, Dawid Ogrodnik and Piotr Głowacki.
