PRODUCTION: Ryszard Bugajski Shooting Stalinist Drama in Warsaw

    WARSAW: Ryszard Bugajski has started shooting the dramatic film Zaćma, inspired by the life of a Stalinist member of the infamous Polish Ministry of Security known as "Bloody Luna."

    The central character is Julia Bristigierowa, a Communist activist and member of the security forces in Stalinist Poland, nicknamed "Bloody Luna" for her severe cruelty towards the victims she interrogated.

    Ryszard Bugajski, a renowned Polish filmmaker most recognized for the box office hit Closed Circuit produced by Filmicon, started shooting on 3 May 2015 in Warsaw. The film is produced by the director's company Erbe Film with a planned budget of 3.5m PLN with 1.5m PLN from the Polish Film Institute and 184,500 PLN from the Mazovia Film Fund, which becomes a coproducer of the film.

    The leading role of Bristigierowa is played by Maria Mamona, and the cast includes Janusz Gajos and Marek Kalita. The DoP is Arkadiusz Tomiak and the set designer is Andrzej Haliński. The date of the premiere has not yet been set.
