ŁÓDŹ: The Polish Minister of Culture Małgorzata Omilanowska announced the establishment of a National Film Centre to showcase Polish cinema in Łódź by the end of 2015.

A contract between the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the City of Łódź will be signed by 30 September 2015. The mission of the centre will be promoting film education and presenting the accomplishments of Polish cinema. The programme and schedule of the Centre's activity will be presented by the end of 2015. The National Film Centre will be located in a cultural and educational complex created in the former power plant EC1.

"The National Film Centre will be an institution preserving the heritage of Polish cinema on multiple levels. The Centre will integrate the activity of other institutions located on Lodź with a similar profile, for example the Museum of Cinematography and the Łódź Film Centre" Omilanowska said.

The intuition will have an exhibition space as well as an educational and research centre. It is also planned as a place to showcase the works of Polish filmmakers. The Centre will have a large archive that will be enriched with new video productions about Polish cinema and an academic journal. The National Film Centre is planned to start its activity on 1 January 2016.
