FNE at REGIOFUN: Polish/Czech/Slovak Family Film in Development

By

KATOWICE: Kaytek The Wizard, a family film, directed by Magdalena Łazarkiewicz and based on a book by Janusz Korczak, will go into production in 2017. The film is planned as a Polish/Czech/Slovak coproduction.

Kaytek The Wizard is based on a novel written by Korczak, a  a Polish-Jewish educator, children's author and pediatrician, who worked as director of an orphanage in Warsaw. Korczak refused an offer of freedom and stayed with his orphans when they were sent from the Ghetto to the Treblinka concentration camp in 1942. The film follows 11-year-old Kaytek, who discovers a supernatural power, the potential of creating reality. This amazing gift turns out to be too heavy to carry for a sensible, curious boy with family issues, growing up in the disturbing time before WWII.

The film is produced by Media Brigade Banaszkiewicz Kurek sp.j. in coproduction with Frame100r, Alef, Barrandov and spoon.

"The planned budget is 12.2 m PLN / 4 m EUR and we already have 80% of financing in place. We already have two distributors, Poland’s Next Film and the Czech company Bontonfilm," the producer Cyprian Marchewka told FNE.

The premiere of the film is planned for 2018. The film will also be edited into a TV mini-series format.
