GDYNIA: Juliusz Machulski’s crime comedy Volta will screen in the competition of the 42nd Gdynia Film Festival (18-23 September 2017). The film was released domestically by Kino Świat on 7 July 2017, with 265,354 admissions to date.
Volta follows 30-years-old Aga, a pretty and smart girl facing a crisis in her relationship with 20-years-older Bruno, a calculating lawyer. For him, Aga has completely forsaken her dreams. An accidental meeting of Aga with her peer Viki will make the life of each of the protagonists change dramatically. "I wanted to make a film where women are conning men. Volta is a comic action comedy, but one of the topics is hot, nationalism. The viewers won't probably believe that I wrote it before the current political uproar in Poland", Juliusz Machulski told FNE. The all-star cast includes Olga Bołądź, Andrzej Zieliński and Aleksandra Domańska in the leads, accompanied by Tomasz Kot, Robert Więckiewicz and Antoni Pawlicki. Shooting took place on location in Warsaw in August 2016. The film was produced by Studio Filmowe Zebra in coproduction with TVN and Canal+ Polska. The final budget has not been announced, but the production received 462,000 EUR / 2 m PLN from the Polish Film Institute and 207,370 EUR / 900,000 PLN from the Lublin Film Fund.
