WARSAW: Polish private broadcaster TVN has commissioned a second season of the hit costume series Belle Epoque produced by Akson Studio.

The first 10-episode season of Belle Epoque premiered on TVN on 15 February 2017 and became a ratings hit with an average of 1.89 m viewers per episode, which gave TVN 13.94% of the total market share and 16.61% of 16-49-year-olds.

The show, a noir crime costume drama set in 1908 Krakow, is produced by Akson Studio for TVN. The first season was directed by Michał Gazda, produced by Michał Kwieciński (Akson Studio), Katarzyna Bielecka (TVN) and Marta Grela-Gorostiza (TVN). The final budget of the show has not yet been announced, but it is considered to be one of the most expensive Polish TV series made to date.

"With the new season we have a slightly different cast, we are currently developing the visual style and for sure, there will a lot more mud because we are set to shoot in the Fall of 2017. We need to consider the realities of the Polish market, not only the financial ones, but also the ones connected to our vision. We are building a cohesive aesthetic viewpoint at TVN and this vision continues to work," said Edward Miszczak, TVN Programme Director.

The premiere date for the new season of Belle Epoque has not yet been announced.
