GDYNIA: Oscar nominated Polish filmmaker Bartosz Konopka will showcase his new drama The Mute in the main competition of the 43rd Gdynia Film Festival, running from 17 to 22 September 2018. The film is a Polish/Belgian coproduction starring Krzysztof Pieczyński and Karol Bernacki.

The Mute / Krew Boga is set in the Middle Ages. Two men come to a pagan land - one to bring Christianity, the other to find his way of living. They choose two different ways of reaching the pagans. In the fight between dialogue and force, one of them will die. The script is a collaboration between Bartosz Konopka, Przemysław Nowakowski and Anna Wydra.

The Mute was produced by Anna Wydra through Otter Films in coproduction with Polish Odra-Film and Belgium’s Earlybirds Films. The project was developed during the EAVE workshops and it also received the Krzysztof Kieślowski Award at the ScripTeast workshop. The budget of 2 m EUR was partially covered by the Polish Film Institute, Eurimages and Screen Flandres.

Kino Świat will release the film domestically in 2018. Paris-based Reel Suspects is managing the sales.

In 2010 Bartosz Konopka and Anna Wydra were nominated for an Academy Award in the short documentary category with Rabbit à la Berlin.
